Persona Story

A son of Spanish Jews in the late 15th Century, Yuçef was 15 when the Spanish Inquisition hit his hometown of Toledo in 1494. His family was killed in the riots and he fled into the countryside, eventually making his way to the port city of Cadiz. There he stowed away on the first available ship heading out of the country. The pirates who ran the ship were none to pleased to find young Yuçef aboard, but he managed to convince the captain to keep him on as a deck swab. There, aboard The Black Thorn, he changed his name to Lot and his trade to piracy.

He spent 3 years on The Black Thorn, learning to sail, fight and steal, when they were caught and the captain was hanged for piracy. After narrowly escaping being arrested with the rest of the crew, Lot decided to turn to a more legitimate career, and took up as a sailor aboard The Fair Lizabetta, captained by Laird Elijah Cameron of Black Isle, and flagship for the merchant fleet of the Familia di Cellini. Lady Dianora, the head of the household, took a liking to Lot right away, and after learning he was an orphan, adopted him into their family.

As a member of the family, Lot met and fell in love with one of Dianora's wards, Caterina (see bio), another secret Jew. Lot worked his way up aboard Captain Cameron's ship, eventually becoming his boatswain and lieutenant, while earning a name and wealth enough to ask Dianora for Caterina's hand. At their betrothal, Dianora, as an advance on her ward's dowry gave Lot a ship to captain, The White Star, and the charge to scout the lands and seas of Caid for new allies and trade routes. Promising Caterina that he would return, Lot left for Caid where he gathered a stout crew and earned a fair reputation. Then he returned for his bride, and stole her away from the family villa to help him run the ship. Together they sailed off to the far away lands, where they have earned titles and recognition. To this day they continue to search the seas for new crewmates and allies and to spread the glory of La familia di Cellini.
